The EPF interest rate for the financial year 2024-25 is fixed at 8.25%. These rates are reviewed annually by the EPFO and are applicable from April 1st of one year to March 31st of the following year. Interest is calculated based on the monthly closing balance and credited to the EPF account on March 31st. Inactive accounts may still earn interest, but interest on dormant accounts is taxed at the member’s income tax slab rate. Contributions to the Employees’ Pension Scheme do not earn interest, but a pension is provided from this amount after the age of 58.
